A week-long dance and cultural programme, focusing on the social dances that were popular around the time of the outbreak of the Great War. Featuring Richard Powers, from Stanford University’s Dance Division, and other workshop leaders from Fly Right Dance Company.

Our programme is still being tweaked, but here are some key highlights for you:

Sunday 3 August
Evening: Opening Ceilidh. Meet and greet – orientation. Venue: Haddington Corn Exchange

Monday 4 August – Friday 8 August
Mornings (09:30 – 13:00): Dance workshops with Richard Powers and members of the Fly Right Dance. Co. Details of the workshop programme to be finalised, but it will certainly cover Ragtime dances, Tango and the Fox-Trot.

Afternoon: Various cultural excursions, including a visit to our local distillery at Glenkinchie, and other tourist attractions. One afternoon will be a tea dance – venue yet to be confirmed but looking likely to be in one of the world-famous Spiegeltents which will be at Fringe By The Sea in North Berwick.

Evenings: mostly free time – as it is Edinburgh Festival time, every spare venue is given over to being a venue for shows, so there is not much scope for social dancing at this time of year. However, we’re looking to organise one other social dance event on one evening – possibly another, more formal, ceilidh. It may be that people might like to take in one of the thousands of shows that will be on in Edinburgh in the evenings!

Saturday 9 August
Morning (09:30 – 13:00) – final workshop session to prepare for the ball.
Lunch and Afternoon – Free time
Evening: Full costumed ball with a 1914 theme. Venue is the amazing Gosford House – A true Downton-style experience!
