Dances of the Ballroom workshop

Dancing at the Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris
Dancing on the kiosque at the Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris – heavenly!

Here at Fly Right we’ve been delving even further into the dance past.  We’ve been travelling over Europe, learning from esteemed dance historians and well-respected historical dance organisations about dances of the 19th century ballroom and the Ragtime era.  We’ve had such fun learning them that we’re sure you’d like them, too.  So we’re going to be running a day of workshops in Musselburgh at the Brunton Halls on Saturday 11 May 2013 to introduce some of them to you….

So you’ll get the chance to learn some fun dances of the ballroom from Victorian/Edwardian times!  A nineteenth-century morning workshop with waltz and two easy quadrilles, and after lunch some Ragtime dances, like Castle Walk and Hesitation Waltz. Great for ceilidh/ballroom dancers, or curious novices!

Morning Workshop – 10 am till noon. Dances of the 19th Century Ballroom

A chance to learn some fun dances of the ballroom from Victorian times! Fly Right’s two-hour taster session will cover basic skills in original Viennese Waltz, the Triplet Galop Quadrille and the Triplet Polka Quadrille, with the emphasis on fun!

Afternoon Workshop – 1pm till 3pm. Ragtime dances

After lunch, we’ll be delving into the dances of the Ragtime era – step back 100 years and get that Downtown Abbey vibe with Fly Right’s Ragtime taster workshop. You’ll learn partner dances like the Castle Walk and the Hesitation Waltz, and see how these dances have informed modern ballroom and partner dances.
